Front Clear Indicator Conversion
For a clearer look, change the orange lenses for clear ones. This gives a slightly more modern look and suits the Esprit. This mod along with the rear clear lenses and smaller side indicators gets rid of some of the old British Leyland parts. This mod is easy to do and not too expensive. Doesn't make a massive difference to the Esprits appearance, but who'd want to do that anyway!
Before these were available we modified our old lenses by sawing a pair and gluing the two clear sides together. These custom lenses are now available, so now messing around, no glue and no sawing! Just swap them over. You'll see our previous effort in the guide below.
You will need the following parts: Clear Indicator kits |

Time:- 20 mins for both sides.
The lenses come bubble-wrapped and with two different sets of bulbs. You can either use the orange bulbs, or if you want to go super clear, use the silver ones. Then you'll see not even a hit of orange until your indicators are on.
Nicely made custom lenses. You'll won't know they weren't original (other than the orange missing!). Our old glued together lenses weren't looking too good close-up. Orange bulb spoils the clear look, so we're going for the silver bulbs.
Unscrew the two phils screws holding the lense in. Ours pulled part when we removed them. The glue was just about holding out!
These are our orange bulbs from the original conversion we did. If you've not done it before, you'll have a clear bulb. Twist and pull out the indicator bulb and replace with your choice of bulb.
Silver bulb for LEW's Esprit. Then push the lenses back over
Screw back in. Don't over tighten and make sure the lenses is flat when you tighten the screws. Work one side, then the other, then back to get even pressure. You don't want to crack them!
The Silver bulbs do glow orange! Just in case you thought they wouldn't!. Not a great deal of difference to our Esprit, as we already had clear lenses. But on closer inspection, they are 100x better. We just wish they were out about 3 years ago, so we didn't have to go through all the sawing and gluing!
LEW's Verdict
Only for cosmetic purposes, the change isnt big but now you are not drawn to those ugly orange indicators. Makes the car look cleaner and more modern from a distance. Some of these Stevens indicators I believe are used in the Tractor Industry. Now that tells you something!
